Missing

Missing” is a 1994 hit song by the British duo Everything But the Girl, from their album Amplified Heart. It became one of the band’s most iconic tracks, especially after it was remixed by American DJ Todd Terry. The remix turned the song into a global dance anthem, reaching the top 10 in many countries, including the US, where it peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The concept of the “desert blooming” comes from the Book of Isaiah in the Bible, particularly in Isaiah 35:1-2, where it describes a time of renewal, hope, and restoration:

“The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing…” (Isaiah 35:1-2, KJV)

This passage is often interpreted symbolically to represent a transformation from desolation to abundance, offering hope that even the most barren places—whether literal deserts or metaphorical struggles—can be revived and flourish. It reflects themes of spiritual renewal, the arrival of the Messiah, or God’s intervention to restore creation.

In a broader context, the “desert bloom” can be seen as a metaphor for hope in difficult times, a vision of life and beauty emerging from dry and seemingly lifeless circumstances. This idea of desert blooming is also sometimes used in discussions of Israel’s agricultural development, where once-barren lands have been turned into productive farmland.

The imagery is powerful because it contrasts the harshness of a desert with the joy of seeing it come to life with blossoms, representing God’s promise of restoration and abundance.
